About Andrew

I'm Andrew Duquet. I founded SearchLight Systems in 1995 and still run it myself. There are no junior recruiters and no hand-offs: the person you talk to on the first call is the person who represents you.

I have a BSEE from Purdue University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. The engineering degree means I understand the technical work, and the MBA means I understand the business reasons behind a hire, technical or not. When I describe a role to an engineer, or an engineer's background to a hiring manager, I know what the work actually involves. That's a big part of how SearchLight has made more than 2000 placements.

Specialties

Semiconductors

Where SearchLight started in 1995, with deep roots in analog and mixed-signal: the engineers who design, build and bring chips to market.

Drones and robotics

Engineers for drones, robotics and autonomous systems, where hardware, software and systems work meet.

Sensors

Engineers who design and build sensors and the systems around them.

Energy

Engineering talent for energy companies.

Machine learning and AI

ML and AI engineers, and the hardware and systems engineers who build the platforms they run on.

Beyond engineering

Engineering is my core, but I also recruit for selected non-engineering roles at the companies I work with.

For employers

Two ways to work together, depending on what the search needs.

Contingency search

You pay a fee only when you hire a candidate I introduce. No retainer.

Contract recruiting

Hourly recruiting support, billed by the hour, when you want dedicated sourcing and outreach working alongside your team.

Book a call to talk through a role.

For engineers

  • Confidential. Your name and resume go to an employer only after you've agreed to that specific role.
  • Personal email only. I contact you at a personal address, never your work email.
  • No resume spam. I don't blast your background around. Each introduction is one role you've said yes to.
  • A wide market. Beyond my own clients, I can introduce you to hundreds of hiring companies with more than 1,000 open engineering roles.
  • Straight answers. I'll tell you what I know about the role, the team and the process, and say so when I don't know.

How I work

  1. Understand the role

A conversation with the hiring manager about the work, the team and what a great hire looks like.

  2. Find the right people

Targeted, personal outreach to engineers whose actual experience fits, not a keyword search.

  3. Talk before introducing

I speak with each candidate first and introduce only the ones who fit and want the role.

  4. Stay in touch

I stay your point of contact while the hiring team runs its interviews and decision.
